Proper Hill Procedures

Traveling Uphill

1.      Always travel uphill at a right angle to the slope.

2.      Avoid steep hills (15 degree maximum, recommended)

3.      Keep both feet on the footrests.

4.      Transfer your weight forward. (stand & lean through the handle bars)

5.      Proceed at a steady rate of speed and throttle opening.

6.      Remain alert and be prepared to take emergency action.

 

 

 

Driving Across Hillsides

1.      Slow your speed

2.      Lean into the hill, transferring your upper body weight uphill while keeping your feet on the footrest.

3.      Steer slightly into the hill to maintain direction.

4.      If the ATV begins to flip over, quickly turn the front wheel downhill, if possible or dismount to the uphill side immediately!

 

 

 

Traveling Downhill

1.      Drive directly downhill, at a right angle to the slope.

2.      Transfer your weight to the rear of the ATV.

3.      Slow your speed.

4.      Apply the front and rear breaks at the same time, very lightly, to aid in slowing and maintaining control of the ATV.

 

 

 

Parking on Hill

1.      Turn the engine off.

2.      Set the parking break.

3.      Always block the rear wheels on the downhill side.

4.      Shut off the fuel supply.

Avoid parking on a hill if possible!
